Another large-sized fish you can catch in Red Dead Redemption 2 is the Lake Sturgeon, which is endemic to most lakes in the southern regions as well as the Lagras Swamps.
The RDR2 Lake Sturgeon can be easily identified amongst other large fish species such as the Longnose Gar, Channel Catfish, Muskie, or Northern Pike due to its ganoid scales.
Although it’s quite large, you can attempt to catch this fish in the video game developed by Rockstar Studios, the moment you start Chapter 2.
Description:
“Lake Sturgeon are large, strong, bottom-feeding fish that dwell in the deeper waters of some Southern lakes and swamps. They can be tempted to bite by man-made Lake Lures. Lake Sturgeon are known to be more active during overcast weather. A huge Legendary Lake Sturgeon is rumored to have been spotted around the Lannahechee River delta.”
Recommended Fishing Spot and Bait:
On the map below you can see all RDR2 fishing spots where you can fish for Lake Sturgeons; however, our recommended location remains Kamasa River, just east of Rhodes.
On the other hand, if you attempt to catch a Lake Sturgeon in the swamps south of Lagras Bait and Tackle shop; you may catch a Channel Catfish since these two species share that habitat.
The recommended lure for this type of fish is the Lake Lure you can obtain from the same shop in Lagras. It’s also worth mentioning that overcast weather will help you get better results, but it’s not a decisive factor.
Lake Sturgeon Variation and Weight:
Like all other fish species in the video game, the Lake Sturgeon has two variations you can catch. The first one is the common sturgeon which has a weight between 14 and 20 lbs available in all areas marked on our map.
The Legendary Lake Sturgeon which is part of the mission named A Fisher of Fish weights 46 lbs and you can attempt to catch it south-west of Saint-Denis. Its location is also marked on our map.
Cooking Recipes:
The sturgeon is a Flaky Fish; therefore, there is a limited number of recipes you can cook using its meat. Without any additional aromatic herbs, you can prepare Plain Flaky Fish.
By adding Thyme, Oregano and Mint you can cook Thyme Flaky Fish, Oregano Flaky Fish, and Minty Flaky Fish.
How to Catch:
Using the same fishing technique applied to catch all other large-sized fish species, will help you catch the Lake Sturgeon.
After you cast the line and hook the fish by pressing R2/RT, remember to tilt the left thumbstick down at small intervals while rotating the right thumbstick clockwise.
Reeling when the fish struggles, is not recommended; but you can continue to tilt the thumbstick in order to save some line.
