About this item

  • Purigen is a Premium Synthetic Adsorbent
  • Ultimate Filtration
  • Unparalleled Capacity to Remove Organic Waste
  • Marine & Freshwater

Product description

Purigen is a premium synthetic adsorbent that is unlike any other filtration product. It is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity that exceeds all others by over 500%. Purigen controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds. Purigen’s impact on trace elements is minimal. It significantly raises redox. It polishes water to unparalleled clarity. Purigen darkens progressively as it exhausts, and is easily renewed by treating with bleach. Purigen is designed for both marine and freshwater use.

Sadly this was only before photo i had but the results are great! I could hardly see into my tank before, It cleared up all the tannings in my water in less than 24 hours my tank has never been so clear. It needs to be put in a part of your filter that has a lot of compressed moving water through it i put mine at the bottom tray of my fulval canister and it has worked perfectly others did recommend putting it at the top for easy access. The only downside to purigen is that it will take the medicinal benefits of the tannings out of your water so be careful if that is something you would want to keep πŸ™‚

I rarely leave reviews but this product is exceptional!!!! I have some bog wood in my tank which despite being in there 3 years still discolours the water. Since using this the tank is so clear! I never have an issue with the water looking murky.
Well worth it.

In the UK my input water is around 50ppm nitrates and I didn’t want to deal with a RODI kit in my current place.
Bought this on a whim and I can’t believe it. Just dropped into the empty filter compartment that a fluval flex has at the back. 24 hours later my nitrates have gone from 40 – 80ppm to 5 – 10ppm. It also does all the stuff activated carbon does.
I thought that sucking that much nitrate out might exhaust it quickly but no change to colour and apparently it should last 4 months in a 100litre tank then you can just soak in toilet bleach to regenerate.
Some people seem to buy it in order to make the water clearer that I guess it will do over time by removing nitrates and thus stunting algae growth but if you just need this to remove chemicals then it is great.

I’ve put it in the filter, switched it on and millions of tiny plastic things landed in my aquarium… It’ll be a pain to get rid of them. Rinsed it for an hour before trying and still littered everywhere.
